Brand deals aren't just for lifestyle influencers
There's a massive misconception that brand partnerships are reserved for creators with millions of followers doing unboxing videos. In tech, the game is completely different. Brands want credibility, not just reach. They want someone who can explain their product to the exact audience that buys it.
If you can articulate technical concepts clearly and you have an engaged audience of developers, engineering leaders, or tech decision-makers — you're sitting on a goldmine.
What brands actually want
After dozens of conversations with developer relations teams and marketing leads at SaaS companies, I've learned they care about three things: 1) Does your audience match their ICP? 2) Can you create content that doesn't feel like an ad? 3) Do you actually use and understand the product?
Notice what's not on that list: follower count. I've seen creators with 5K LinkedIn followers outperform creators with 500K YouTube subscribers in conversion — because the smaller audience was exactly the right audience.

Every brand deal I do follows this framework: I only partner with tools I actually use. Period. My audience can tell the difference between a genuine recommendation and a paid read, and trust is the only asset that compounds.
I structure deals as integrated content, not interruption ads. The product becomes part of the story — 'Here's how I solved this problem, and this tool was part of my workflow.' That's authentic because it's true.
The media kit that closes deals
Your media kit is your sales page. Mine includes: audience demographics (role, seniority, company size), engagement metrics that matter (click-through rates, not just views), case studies from past partnerships showing real results, and clear pricing.
Most creators undersell because they don't quantify their value. If a $50/month SaaS tool gets 200 signups from your content, that's $120K ARR. Your sponsorship fee should reflect that math.
